Lecture: DIGNITY
AND DRAMA: Images
From the book of kings (The
Shah Nameh) By Professor Olga M. Davidson The Shah Nameh has been a source of inspiration, intense adoration, condemnation and analysis since it was written by the poet Ferdowsi in the 11th Century. It is a vast, magnificent narrative poem describing the mythical and traditional history of Iran, its kings, warriors and foes, from the creation of the world to the advent of Islam, the invasion of the Arab armies, and the end of the last mighty dynasty in the 7th Century. Professor Olga Davidson will present some focal scenes and images from this work and explore the many ways in which these scenes are evoked masterfully and concisely in verse and pictures.
